Sandon School secure 2nd place in Regional Cricket Tournament!
During February and March Sandon pupils have been visited weekly by Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust. Former Cricketer and Trust Director, Darren Bicknell has been coaching them 'Table Top Cricket'.
The Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust runs a Special Needs Cricket Programme giving youngsters the opportunity to play sport and learn skills on a regular basis.
The Programme helps to improve the lives of youngsters with learning and physical disabilities by:
- Promoting activeness
- Increasing self image and social skills
- Improving cognitive skills
This activity led on to Oak Class from Sandon, being entered into a regional tournament that took place on Monday 14th March at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre, Nottingham Trent University!
The day was run as part of Lord’s Taverners National Table Cricket Development Programme with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Board. Five teams attended – Oakfield School, Sandon School, Newark Orchard, Beech Academy and Brackenhill.
In a round robin format against the 5 other schools, Oak Class were feeling confident and won their first 4 games. The last game was tense but Oak were pipped to the post by just 13 points, resulting in Sandon achieving an amazing 2nd place!!
The pupils had an absolutely fantastic day and would like to say a big thank you to Darren for all his coaching and support. All the children that took part in the event were presented with a certificate and a goody bag at the end of the day.
