DSC 2149The Spalding Priory School 5 v 2 Ambergate Sports College

Ambergate travelled to Spalding in high spirits and full of confidence due to their previous win at The Spalding Priory School. Both teams fielded different players which set up the game to be an interesting one.

The conditions were very cold and wet, therefore it was very important that the players warmed up properly to reduce to risk of injury.

Once again the team prepared excellently with the kit and equipment being laid out in the changing rooms the night before.

The game started slowly with most of the players struggling to battle the temperatures however it wasn’t long before The Priory School took the lead with a long range effort. There was nothing that Frank Osbourne could have done to save it. The Priory school increased their lead and going into half time they were winning 3-0.

After an inspirational half time team talk from Mr Maltby the Ambergate team started the second half very well with a point to prove. Effort levels increased, tackles made and shots on target improved and soon Ambergate were clawing their way back into the game. Sam Pell found himself in the opponent’s 6 yard box with only the keeper to beat, which he coolly slotted home.

Ambergate’s second goal came from a powerful shot on the edge of the box from Jonathon Mitchell which flew towards Ryan Caven who flicked it on into the bottom corner of the goal.

With the team set up to score goals in the second half, The Priory took advantage with 2 quick counter attacks which results in fantastic team goals. The term ‘Park the bus’ and ‘hit them on the counter’ came to mind.

Once again an excellent display of team work from start to finish. Congratulations to all the players for representing the school and showing exceptional sportsmanship.

Comment from Mr Maltby:

An excellent game to watch, with some fantastic goals from both teams. Everyone enjoyed representing the school and taking a penalty after the game. Well done to Jonathon Mitchell who was man of the match due to his effort throughout the game.
