The Spalding Priory School 4 v 5 Ambergate Sports College
Ambergate travelled to Spalding for what was to be a very wet, cold and closely contested game. On route it looked highly likely that the game was to be called off however rain did not stop play and both teams revelled in the weather.
The message to the players before the game was to enjoy the game and ignore the weather. Nathan Weston scored early on which settled the players into the game however it wasn’t long before The Priory School pulled away with a 3-1 lead.
Half time soon came around and Mr Maltby urged the players to move the ball quickly and play to our strengths. Tyler Wakefield and Lewis Blackburn kept Ambergate in the game through creating chances and keeping the ball in the oppositions half. A superbly finished penalty from Lewis and a goal from Tyler drew both teams level. With Ambergate in controlled the decision was made to push Jack West-Sadler and Jonathon Mitchell further forward to support the waves of attack. Two more goals from Lewis and Tyler secured the victory for Ambergate.
Man of the match went to Kian Gibbs who didn’t stop running all game and made sure the team was organised.
Comment from Mr Maltby:
Once again another closely contested game which started very brightly. All the players loved playing in the conditions and now I can’t wait to wash the very muddy kit! Well done to everyone involved.
