Y6MIQPVGXT04UWNELHWWAs a school, we were excited to receive an invitation to attend the eighth annual Children of Courage Awards hosted by The Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven. The award’s purpose is to recognise children who have demonstrated courage, despite the odds, in overcoming physical, economic, social disabilities or impairment (mental or physical). Each year GANF take great pride in nominating a pupil from Ambergate and a pupil from Sandon, and this year Jon Cronin from Ambergate and Joshua Czarnecki from Sandon, were both nominated.

The awards ceremony was held on the afternoon of 7th March at The Urban Hotel Grantham. Both nominees were seated with their guests and a GANF representative. All guests enjoyed a three-course meal and listened to speeches made by staff members representing each nominee from local educational establishments.

The ceremony began with each youngster receiving a certificate, an award, and a pen created especially for the event by Trevor Tillison. The gifts were presented by, The Mayor of Grantham, Lynda Coutts, and Chairman of South Kesteven District Council, George Chivers.

Paralympic star Sam Ruddock was a special guest at the awards ceremony and gave an inspiring speech to all of the attendees.

Ambergate pupil, Jon, received his nomination for this year’s Child of Courage Awards as a sign of admiration from everyone at Ambergate following the adversity he has faced in his personal life. Jon has not allowed his personal life experiences to negatively impact on him and has instead inspired himself to help others as much as he can to ensure they do not suffer in any way. Jon is currently Ambergate’s Head Boy, and with his warm personality, he is developing into a mature polite young man.

Joshua was nominated from Sandon School for pushing his personal expectations of himself throughout his time at Sandon. At GANF we have been fortunate to see Joshua grow and develop into a wonderful young man as he attended Ambergate before joining Sandon in 2017. Joshua has historically found it difficult to manage his emotions but through close work and support, Joshua has made great progress in this and received a Head Boy nomination at Sandon last year.

All the staff and pupils at GANF would like to say huge congratulations to Jon and Josh on their nominations for the Child of Courage Awards. We are very proud of everything they have achieved!
