Shelby Walker, a Sandon School pupil, has been selected to represent the East Midlands at the Special Olympics next year.
Shelby is 18 years old and was born with Down Syndrome and serious health problems and underwent open-heart surgery for congenital heart disease. Shelby also has Autism.
Shelby’s Mum Kerry said, “Shelby being selected is amazing news, she is my hero! My heart literally stopped when we got the letter saying she had made the cut. I am so proud of her!”.
Shelby attends Grantham Gymnastics, and will be competing in four disciplines; the bars, beam, vault and floor.
The Special Olympics will be held in 2021 in Liverpool, which Shelby is thrilled about as she is an avid Liverpool FC supporter!
