This year was the 30th Anniversary of the Annual Rotary Club of Grantham Swimarathon!
On Friday 1st February 2019 the Swimarathon began and lasted for the whole weekend. A record 270 teams and over 1600 people had signed up to take part in this special event.
The event saw local people from Grantham and surrounding areas put teams of up to 6 people in to swim as many lengths as possible in a 50 minute slot, at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre.
GANF entered 8 teams, which means we had the whole pool to ourselves. There were 6 teams from Ambergate and 2 teams from Sandon School. Parents & carers also came down to support the school.
In our allocated time the pupils swam over 800 lengths! Each swimmer gathered sponsorship leading up to the event, which gets donated to the Rotary Club of Grantham. Once all the money is collected in, the Rotary hold a presentation evening where local causes can apply for a donation from the money raised. GANF have been lucky enough in the past to have several projects supported by the money raised from Swimarathon including most recently the Sandon Sensory Room Project. In their 30 year history the event has raised over £800,000!
Each pupil came away with a Swimarathon T Shirt as a souvenir of the day.
Mrs Asken swam for 2 full days and a GANF staff team also swam on the Saturday.
Well done to everyone involved.
